Philosophy

We combine language with culture. In all of our courses:

  • communicative skills are in the foreground.
  • participants apply important communicative and social competencies
    in their self-created Final Projects.
  • excursions, lectures, and regional studies are integrated into
    the program.
  • application of new methods in language acquisition are obvious for
    our teachers.
  • the Institute maintains very good contacts with many host families,
thereby making the stay in Germany a very special experience.

We also develop special courses for partner universities. For further information please do not hesitate to conatct us!

Location

The Institute is located in Luthertown Wittenberg in the building, which was once the Leucorea University (founded in 1502). It was here that the leader of the reformation, Martin Luther, and the famous humanist Phillip Melanchthon during the 16 hundreds once taught. After reunification the run-down building was renovated into the modern conference complex it is today. Seminar rooms, computer labs, a couple of libraries, an auditorium equipped with the latest presentation technology, and a cafeteria are all found here.

The complex houses the Leucorea Foundation, whose purpose is to support and develop academic research in the state of Saxony Anhalt. Additionally, quite a few academic institutes belong to the Leucorea Foundation. Last but not least two on-institutes also call the Leucorea home, these being the Institute for Higher Education Research and the Institute for German Language and Culture.

The celebrated former university building lies in the heart of the historical city center of Wittenberg. You will find reminders of the Reformation around every corner. Neighbouring the university is the home of Philipp Melanchthon, the traditional Predigerseminar- Preacher Seminary, and the Augustinerkloster, where Martin Luther once lived with his family. Today the Augustinerkloster plays a part in telling the story of the Reformation, as it is the Lutherhaus Museum. Within a few minute walk you can be standing in the middle of the Market Square, the gateway to the historic City Hall, the Marienkirche (where Martin Luther used to preach), the Castle Church (where Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses against the practice of selling indulgences to the door of the Castle Church), and the homes of on one of the most famous Renaissance painters, Lucas Cranach. Of course all this can make a person hungry, so there are a variety of restaurants, cafés and stores located in this area of town.
